On Jan. 17 , 2017 President Obama could not resist the pressure and finally commuted Oscar Lopez Rivera sentence after 35 years. His release day will be May 17, 2017. There is an application in the process to move Oscar to a halfway house in San Juan, PR. We will know if the Bureau of Prison will approval by Jan, 30th, 2017. In the event that this is approved, Oscar will be able to see his daughter Clarisa everyday in San Juan and finally celebrate on May 17th his release without any conditions.
There was massive coverage on Oscar’s commutation of sentence by Pres. Obama last days in office. The positive news outweighed the negative. Here is evidence of the peoples’ victory! The process of decolonization has begun for the Puerto Rican people.
