NORAD to Conduct Fighter Jet Exercises in London Area Friday Morning
The skies above London could look like a scene out of Top Gun Friday morning as NORAD is set to conduct flight exercises.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command says fighter jets will grace the skies between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. as they conduct “intercept and identification” exercises.
People in the greater London area may see and hear the low-flying NORAD-controlled jets in close proximity to another aircraft, which will be taking on the role of an aircraft of interest.
NORAD won’t say where exactly the flights will be occurring, nor where planes are taking off and landing.
The bi-national Canadian and American command centre says it continuously conducts exercises with a variety of scenarios, including airspace restriction violations, hijackings and responding to unknown aircraft. They say all of their exercises are carefully planned and closely controlled.
NORAD provides maritime warning, aerospace warning and aerospace control for Canada and the United States.
