Program info: “The NY/NJ Welcoming Committee for the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) invites the public to share an evening with the FMC (Federacion de Mujeres Cubanas) on Saturday, March 19. The event will take place at the 1199SEIUMartin Luther King, Jr Labor Center, 310 West 43rd Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues in Manhattan. The delegation is in New York for month-wide commemorations of International Women’s Day at the United Nations. The delegation includes the General Secretary of the FMC, Teresa Amarelle Boue, FMC International Affairs Director Maritzel Gonzalez, and representatives of other Cuban civil and legal organizations.The delegation will speak on the achievements of Cuban women in terms of gender equality and the leading role that women occupy in the political, economic, cultural and social life of Cuba. They will also take questions and engage in discussion on any issues of US-Cuban relations today: the visit of US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to Cuba on March 21-22, the ongoing economic and travel sanctions against the country; and Cuba’s new economic policies and modernization. There will be a reception from 6:00 to 7:00 PM with the program and Q&A from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
